Secretary of State Announces Temporary Relocation of
Chicago West Driver’s Facility

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office announced the temporary relocation of driver and vehicle services at the Chicago West facility during renovation beginning Tuesday, August 19.

The full service facility, which is located at 5301 W. Lexington, will undergo renovation that will temporarily move vehicle and driver services from where they were previously located. Vehicle services, which provides services like license plate renewals and vehicle and title registration, will be moved to the driver’s division, located on the west side of the building. The driver’s division, which provides services like license and state ID renewal, will be moved to a trailer in the southwest parking lot.

The improvements to this facility will result in more efficient and innovative service by allowing the space within the building to be better utilized. The new layout will distribute the employees and customers more efficiently, which will create an improved, more evenly directed flow of customer service. Previously there was one entrance to the facility. Driver Services and Vehicle Services will now have two separate entrances to accommodate drivers depending on their specific needs. The renovation also includes an upgraded electrical system.

The project is scheduled for completion in November, and the original facility built in 1959, services approximately 4,000 daily.
