Hours Extended For Vehicle Sticker Sales

SPRINGFIELD –– Secretary of State Jesse White today announced expanded operating hours at motor vehicle facilities to accommodate the large number of car and truck owners who have license plate registrations expiring June 30.

"The end of June will be a very busy time, especially for B-truck sticker sales," said White. "Extending our office hours for sticker sales is a special service to help those motorists meet the June 30 deadline, which will not be extended."

Stickers will be issued to passenger car, B-truck, small trailer and flat weight truck and trailer owners who have registrations expiring in June. In Springfield, stickers may be purchased at the Howlett Building, Second and Edwards streets, and the Dirksen Parkway facility, 2701 S. Dirksen Parkway.

Flat weight truck, tractor-trailer and trailer stickers are available at the Chicago North facility, 5401 N. Elston; the Chicago West facility, 5301 W. Lexington; the Chicago South facility, 9901 S. Westmore; the Naperville facility, 931 W. 75th; the Woodstock facility, 428 Eastwood Drive; the Libertyville facility, 342 Peterson Rd., and the Joliet facility, 2450 W. Jefferson.

Passenger car, B-truck and small trailer owners who have license plates expiring in June can purchase renewal stickers over the counter at one of 117 secretary of state license facilities, five secretary of state mobile units or at financial institutions that sell stickers. Stickers may be purchased at about 2,500 financial institutions statewide for a slight additional fee.

It is now too late to mail applications and guarantee delivery of the new stickers before the June 30 expiration date. Anyone driving a vehicle on or after July 1 with an expired June 2001 sticker will be subject to a $75 fine for improper registration.

Pre-printed renewal applications have been mailed to 1,178,143 passenger car and B-truck owners who renew their registrations in June.
