Motorcycle license plates are issued according to piston displacement:150cc and above and less than 150cc. The motorcycle sticker must be attached to the upperright corner of the plate. Illinois Compiled Statutes define a motorcycle as "Every motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of a rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a tractor (625
ILCS 5/1-147).
NOTE: For first-time purchasers, both plates and a sticker are issued. Each subsequent year, a renewal sticker is issued.

Vanity and Personalized license plates are available upon written request.
Less than 150cc Piston Displacement Motorcycle license plates
A letter always precedes the number on these plates. Vanity and Personalized license plates are available upon written request.
Persons with Disabilities Motorcycle license plates Persons with Disabilities Motorcycle license plates are available to persons with qualifying disabilities who submit a physician’s certification verifying disability. A maximum of five (5) numbers can appear on these plates (625 ILCS 5/3-616). Persons with disabilities motorcycle license plates are available in vanity and personalized upon request.
