Teen Driver Safety

"Sadly, traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for people age 15 to 20. My top goal as your Secretary of State is to save lives by reducing fatal traffic crashes. Over the last year I have led the effort to create the most comprehensive graduated driver licensing (GDL) program in the nation. Recent studies show a strong GDL program can drastically reduce teen fatal crashes. I am pleased that the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, based in Washington, D.C., has called our GDL program the best in the country. The passage of the teen driver safety legislation (Senate Bill 172) is proof that we are taking every step possible so that our future leaders will have the opportunity to grow up and fulfill their aspirations."
